A24 said it has prevailed in a highly competitive situation for series rights to Chandler Baker’s legal thriller Discretion, with Nicole Kidman and Elle Fanning set to star and serve as executive producers.
Baker will adapt the story set in Dallas and inspired by her experience in corporate law. She will serve as executive producer alongside Susannah Grant, whose screenplay credits include Erin Brokovich and Unbelievable.
Fanning will serve as executive producer alongside her Lewellen Pictures partners Dakota Fanning and Brittany Kahan Ward, with Kidman doing so with Per Saari via their Blossom Films. The roster includes Jordan Cerf, and Joe Hipps under his Cut To label at A24.
Among Kidman’s recent on-screen credits are Babygirl and the series Perfect Couple. Fanning has starred in A Complete Unknown and will next be seen in Joachim Trier’s Sentimental Value.
Baker is currently adapting The Husbands for Amazon MGM and Plan B with Kristen Wiig attached to star and produce. Baker’s first feature, OH. WHAT. FUN., which she co-wrote with the film’s director Michael Showalter, is based on her short story of the same name and is set to premiere later this year on Amazon Prime.
Her next project with Showalter is in development at Sony 3000.
