AGC Studios will fully finance and launch sales at AFM next week on the psychological thriller Phantom Son that will see David Yates direct Renée Zellweger.
Yates, who directed several entries in the Harry Potter franchise for Warner Bros, will direct from a screenplay by Ian Scott McCullough.
When Audrey, a lonely woman whose son was kidnapped 20 years prior, takes in a runaway a twisted game of cat and mouse ensues when she becomes convinced the youngster is her son.
Additional casting is underway for a production start in the first quarter of 2026.
Zellweger, whose acting credits include Oscar-winning lead and supporting roles in Julia and Cold Mountain as well as the Bridget Jones franchise and Chicago, developed Phantom Son with Carmella Casinelli under their Big Picture Co. They attached Yates and continued development with him before ultimately partnering with AGC Studios to finance and co-produce.
“Phantom Son is that rare discovery with promise to connect on a broad scale with the kind of rich, character-driven storytelling we love, and we’re thrilled it’s taking shape with such an extraordinary team,” said Zellweger and Casinelli. “With David at the helm, and AGC as our partner, we’re poised to deliver something really special.”
Anant Tamirisa negotiated the deal on behalf of AGC Studios, which jointly represents worldwide rights with CAA Media Finance. AGC’s AFM sales roster includes the psychological thriller Tumor to star Sam Rockwell and My Old Ass breakout Maisy Stella.
