AGC International will commence sales talks at the AFM next month on the animated sci-fi Gods Don’t Give Gifts from YouTuber Zack London aka Gossip Goblin.
London used AI to render his feature debut, which takes place in the so-called Second Cycle of Humanity where transhumanism has taken root and the physical limits around humanity have begun to disappear.
Edward Saatchi’s Amazon-based Fable produces Gods Don’t Give Gifts, which will screen on the first day of AFM (November 10-15) for buyers and London’s Gossip Goblin ambassador superfans. The creator commands 1.4million followers on his Gossip Goblin YouTube channel and the trailer has passed 15million views since it launched on October 6.
Gods Don’t Give Gifts will open in US cinemas on December 4 on under 1,000 screens via Fable alongside Gossip Goblin, and will get an awards season push.
AGC founder Stuart Ford said, “Zack London is a genuine auteur […] AGC has always backed distinctive voices and bet early on where audiences are going. A creator who built a devoted global fanbase on YouTube and is now bringing that vision to cinema screens is exactly the kind of talent we want to champion.”
London added that “AI was a tool to help us tell our story at scale, while still being able to maintain our core artistic vision without having to compromise or answer to other parties”. London and Jacob Batchelor wrote the screenplay and produced alongside Saatchi, with Abhi Som, Ravi Bhaskaran, Todd Terrazas and Gino Bautista serving as executive producers.
WME Independent handled the US sale and consults on the theatrical plans.
