
EXCLUSIVE: UK-France sales agent Alief has closed a trio of deals on its slate, including for Toronto title Kanaval, Tallinn prize winner Mongrels and Fantasia winner Nesting.
Henri Pardo’s Kanaval is the story of one young boy’s journey from a small port town on the coast of Haiti in 1975. Tricorder Universe will release in German and Austrian cinemas. Producers are Yzanakio Productions in Canada and Wady Films in Luxembourg. Kanaval won best Canadian feature film, and Best BIPOC Canadian feature at TIFF 2023.
Jerome Yoo’s Korean immigration drama Mongrels has sold to Film Choice Corp for Korea, having won the Fipresci prize and a special jury award for its cast in the first feature competition at Tallinn. Canadian producers are Nach Dudsdeemaytha and Tesh Guttikonda.
Breaking Glass has picked up Chloé Cinq-Mars’s Canada and Switzerland co-production Nesting for the US, with Wild Duck Productions taking for Spain. A new mother grappling with sleep deprivation and postpartum depression, finds herself unable to separate dream from reality. The film won the best Canadian director prize at Fantasia. Producers are Canada’s 1976 Productions and Switzerland’s Point Prod.
