EXCLUSIVE: Screen has confirmed Amazon MGM Studios has acquired a large swathe of the international footprint from Black Bear on the upcoming action comedy Jason Statham Stole My Bike.
The studio has picked up worldwide rights excluding the US, CIS/Ukraine, Asia, Middle East (it has India), Israel and Caribbean. It was unclear at time of writing whether the film will get a theatrical release through Amazon MGM Studios’ international theatrical distribution team led by former Paramount executive Helen Moss.
Black Bear holds US rights to Jason Statham Stole My Bike and recently announced an August 6, 2027, release on the meta feature. Production got underway last week on the film, which is shooting in the UK and Malta and sees Statham play a version of himself.
While Black Bear has kept specific plot points under wraps, director David Leitch, whose credits include The Fall Guy and Deadpool 2, has said the Statham starrer will be family-friendly.
Black Bear launched pre-sales at the EFM in Berlin in February when it was reported the budget was in the region of $80m.
Jason Statham Stole My Bike marks the latest collaboration between Black Bear and Statham. They most recently wrapped production on Guy Ritchie’s Viva La Madness, and Black Bear kicked off pre-sales in Cannes on John Doe.
Alison Flierl wrote the screenplay based on a story from her and Scott Chernoff. Kelly McCormick produces alongside Leitch for 87North, with Statham for Punch Palace Productions, John Friedberg for Black Bear, and Meredith Berg and Ethan Erwin for Beryllium Entertainment.
Fifth Season and Tango – now led by Neil Shah with co-founder Tim Headington since Lia Buman left to head up global acquisitions at Paramount – are the executive producers.
