
EXCLUSIVE: Highland Film Group has released the first-look image from Neil Burger’s action thriller Barracuda starring Anthony Mackie and Dafne Keen and announced deals led by a raft of sales to Amazon.
Robert Zemeckis serves as executive producer on the feature, which is currently in production in Las Cruces, New Mexico. The story follows a former smuggler who rescues a kidnapped teenager and races across the desert to the US border in a 1973 Plymouth Barracuda stolen from a ruthless club owner.
Amazon has acquired Barracuda for the UK, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Benelux, Australia/New Zealand, and Canada.
Highland has licensed the feature in the Middle East Greece (Falcon Films), Greece (Feelgood Entertainment), Poland (Monolith Films), Turkey (ATV), Czech Republic and Slovakia (Foxx Media Group), Israel (Shoval Film Production), South Korea (Kinolight), India (PictureWorks), Taiwan (Kinolight), and Indonesia (Prima Cinema).
The cast includes Steven Bauer, Anthony Del Negro, and Don Worley. Burger, whose credits include Limitless and The Illusionist, directs from a screenplay by Adam Mason and Simon Boyes.
Producers are Jack Rapke and Aaron Rapke for Image Movers, Arianne Fraser, Delphine Perrier and Henry Winterstern for Highland Film Group, Kia Jam for K. Jam Media, Todd Lundbohm for 828 Productions, Peter Jákl for R.U. Robot Studios, and Joe Di Maio.
Highland Film Group is co-financing the project with Aperture Media Partners, represents worldwide rights, and jointly handles US sales with UTA Independent Film Group.
“This is a big, bold project driven by visceral action sequences shot in real life – production is going very well and the footage looks incredible,” Highland COO Delphine Perrier said.
