AGC Studios will finance and co-produce the psychological thriller Sweat starring Ana de Armas for director J Blakeson and will commence sales talks at the EFM in Berlin next month.

The project is based on Magnus von Horn’s Polish film and 2020 Cannes Label selection of the same name, and is being produced by Guy Stodel through his Rosto Inc. alongside Blakeson through his Crimple Beck production company, and AGC chairman and CEO Stuart Ford.

Production is scheduled to begin on March 30 in Los Angeles and the UK. AGC International represents sales rights outside the US, with WME Independent, CAA Media Finance and AGC jointly representing US rights.

De Armas will portray ambitious fitness influencer Emma Kent, who dreams of matching the success of her idol, social media superstar Kat Highbrook. When an encounter with Kat goes horribly wrong, Emma’s carefully curated world begins to collapse and she is forced into a dangerous arrangement with obsessive fan Trent, whose devotion forces Emma to choose how far she is willing to go for fame. Additional casting is underway.

Cuban-born de Armas earned multiple nominations including Oscar and Bafta for playing Marilyn Monroe in Andrew Dominik’s 2022 Venice selection Blonde. Her credits include Knives Out, No Time to Die, Blade Runner 2049, The Gray Man, Ghosted, and Ballerina.

English director Blakeson’s credits include I Care A Lot, The Disappearance Of Alice Creed, and The 5th Wave.
