Angelina Jolie will produce and is attached to star in frontier revenge saga The Kept for Imperative Entertainment based on the novel by James Scott.

Alice Birch, whose writing credits include Lady Macbeth, will adapt the story set in winter 1987 about a wounded upstate New York midwife and her 12-year-old son who set out to avenge the murder of their family by a trio of killers.

Imperative Entertainment’s Dan Friedkin and Bradley Thomas will serve as producers, and head of film Jillian Apfelbaum will oversee development and production.

Jolie is in post on Maleficent 2 and directed the Cambodian genocide drama First They Killed My Father, which Netflix released worldwide in 2017.

Santa Monica-based Imperative Entertainment is currently in production on drug smuggling drama The Mule for Warner Bros. Clint Eastwood directs and stars alongside Bradley Cooper, Taissa Farmiga from current global hit The Nun, Michael Peña, Laurence Fishburne, and Dianne Wiest.
