Anne Hathaway continues a giant year with the announcement that she will join Tom Cruise in Paramount’s Days Of Thunder follow-up scheduled to open on June 2, 2028.
The star of The Devil Wears Prada 2, The Odyssey and The End Of Oak Street will play a Nascar team owner and engineer alongside Cruise reprising his role as Cole Trickle from the 1990 hit.
Cruise also serves as producer alongside his Top Gun: Maverick collaborator Jerry Bruckheimer, who produced he original Days Of Thunder, and Tommy Harper. Jonathan Levine will direct from a screenplay by Will Staples and has year-end American Football drama Mr. Irrelevant starring David Corenswet coming out through Paramount.
Days Of Thunder will be filmed for Imax and is the latest in a line of collaborations with Paramount owner David Ellison, who co-financed Paramount tentpoles when he ran Skydance Media prior to the Paramount merger such as Maverick and the Mission: Impossible films.
Days Of Thunder was directed by Cruise’s Top Gun director Tony Scott and earned $157.9m in 1990, or approximately $406m in today’s terms when adjusted for inflation. Cruise starred alongside his now former wife Nicole Kidman.
Cruise stars in Alejandro Gonzalez Iñárritu’s satire Digger, which Warner Bros has chosen to keep away from the fall festivals and premieres at the Royal Film Performance in London on October 2.
That same day in North America brings Hathaway’s next starring role in Amazon MGM Studios’ adaptation of the Colleen Hoover mystery Verity.
