‘Another Round’

Week-on-week digital rentals of Thomas Vinterberg’s Oscar winner Another Round have surged 600% on streaming platforms FandangoNow and Vudu since the awards ceremony.

While actual revenue numbers were not available, the rise in transactions on the two Fandango-owned services is emblematic of broad revenue leaps for a number of key award winners from Sunday’s (April 25) ceremony.

In the 24-hour period since the start of the 93rd Oscars (Sunday 5pm PT-Monday 5pm PT), rentals of best picture winner Nomadland climbed 129% on week-ago numbers, while The Father starring lead actor winner Anthony Hopkins gained 67%.

Emerald Fennell’s original screenplay winner Promising Young Woman gained 63%, Minari starring supporting actress winner Yuh-Jung Youn climbed 37%, and feature animation and best score winner Soul 33%.

Fandango reported that Judas And The Black Messiah, which won Oscars for supporting actor Daniel Kaluuya and best song, gained 8%.

According to reports, Oscar winners occupy three of the top four slots on Apple TV rentals. As of Tuesday Promising Young Woman ranked number one, followed by Nomadland in second place, and The Father in third. Minari ranked sixth.

This year’s digital data supplants post-Oscars reporting on the traditional theatrical box office ‘bump’ at a time when the exhibition sector is clawing its way back after a devastating period of closures due to the pandemic.
