Busy Apple Studios has acquired rights to the upcoming Formula 1 feature starring Brad Pitt which Plan B, Jerry Bruckheimer and British motor racing great Lewis Hamilton will produce alongside Top Gun: Maverick’s Joseph Kosinski, who will also direct.

Screen understands an innovative deal will set a wide theatrical release for an unspecified time with a unspecified distributor. The creative team will receive upfront and buy-out fees as well as back-end. This has not happened before with a streamer.

Pitt will portray a driver who comes out of retirement to team up with a rookie and take on the titans of the sport. The deal with Kosinski, Plan B Entertainment and Jerry Bruckheimer Films marks Apple’s second feature with Pitt and Plan B after the untitled thriller set up with George Clooney’s Smokehouse for Jon Watts to direct.

Top Gun: Maverick co-writer Ehren Kruger will write the screenplay. Chad Oman of Jerry Bruckheimer Films will also produce and Copper CEO Penni Thow serves as executive producer.

Yesterday Apple landed rights to Steve McQueen’s upcoming Second World War drama Blitz.
