EXCLUSIVE: UK sales outfit Architect has unveiled a first look at Josh Tanner’s debut feature, Posthumous, as photography wraps in Queensland, Australia.
The Dive star Sophie Lowe leads the cast of the supernatural horror, about a woman whose life is falling apart, and returns to her childhood home to find comfort. The discovery of a mysterious VHS tape begins to unravel everything she thought she knew about her long-deceased mother’s passing. Delving into the footage, her reality starts to fracture, and an unimaginable supernatural force is unleashed.
Cast also includes David Roberts, Doris Younane, Remy Hii, Christopher James Baker, Kira-Che Heelan, George Pullar and Mia Morrissey.
Tanner directs from his screenplay co-written by Jade van der Lei. The pair also produce, under their Imposter Syndrome banner. The film received major production investment from Screen Australia in association with Screen Queensland. Financed with support from the Gold Coast Film Commission with local distribution by Kismet Movies. Michael Agar, Ester Harding, Josh Pomeranz, Veronica Fury and Joel Anderson are executive producers.
Posthumous shot on location in Brisbane and at Pinnacle Films Studios on Australia’s Gold Coast.
”I adore the creeping dread of the analogue horror sub-genre, and through it, Posthumous explores emotionally rich themes of the past, grief and long-buried family secrets through warped VHS visuals that unravel our characters fragile psyches, sense of reality and opens the door to the most existential of horrors,” said Tanner.
Architect partner Calum Gray added: “Josh and Jade are world-class, multi-award-winning short filmmakers and their feature debut Posthumous is a chilling and deliciously retro-infused supernatural horror that will scare and delight in equal measure. This team are the next discoveries emerging from Australia’s tradition of outstanding genre filmmakers.”
