Germany’s Beta Cinema has named The Playmaker’s Moritz Hemminger as its new head of sales and acquisitions, and has promoted Tassilo Hallbauer to EVP sales, acquisitions and international co-productions.
The appointments follow the recent departure of Thorsten Ritter, who was EVP acquisitions, sales and marketing.
Hemminger was previously head of sales and acquisitions at The Playmaker, championing horror, thriller and sci-fi projects. Before launching The Playmaker, he spent nine years at the ARRI Media World Sales, collaborating with directors including Caroline Link, Andrei Konchalovsky, Edgar Reitz, and Christian Zübert.
Alongside his acquisitions responsibilities, Hemminger will oversee Beta Cinema sales across Spain, Australia, and all Asian markets.
London-based Hallbauer, previously Beta Cinema’s head of sales and acquisitions, will lead the acquisitions and development of English-language feature films, an area where Beta Cinema has been expanding in recent years.
“I’m delighted to welcome Moritz Hemminger to our team. Moritz not only has excellent industry contacts but is also a highly respected colleague who combines creative vision with sharp commercial instincts,” said Dirk Schürhoff, CEO of Beta Cinema.
“Moritz and I have been friends and industry peers for over a decade, during which I’ve seen him consistently set the standard for excellence in our field. It’s a privilege to welcome him as a partner in shaping Beta Cinema’s future,” said Hallbauer.
“Having long admired Beta’s commitment to championing visionary filmmakers, I am truly delighted to join this experienced team. I look forward to continuing to support distinctive storytellers and producers throughout the development, packaging and financing phase, to maximize both global recognition and sales for each of our partners’ projects,” added Hemminger.
