Beta Cinema is taking new features starring Nina Hoss and Felix Kammerer to next week’s Cannes Marché du Film (May 12-20).
The Germany-based sales firm has boarded Mariko Minoguchi’s The Other Side starring Hoss with Precious Mariam Sanusi and Barbara Petritsch. Set in a near-future society shaped by the aftermath of a devastating pandemic, the film follows a former doctor who has retreated into isolation in the Alpine wilderness. When she encounters an injured stranger, her hard-won solitude is put to the test.
The film is produced by Trimafilm, producers of Berlinale 2026 Competition entry Home Stories, in co-production with Rundfilm. Currently in post-production, X-Verleih will release The Other Side in Germany towards the end of this year.
Beta Cinema has also picked up Hannu Salonen’s The Rome Eight. Set in post-Second World War Germany and based on true events, it follows a visionary rowing coach who defies convention with radical training methods, transforming a group of misfits into an unstoppable crew.
Also in post-production, it is produced by Ivo-Alexander Beck for Germany’s Ninety-Minute Film, in co-production with Adams Acht, Sunday Filmproduktion and Majestic Filmproduktion. Olivier Masucci, Kammerer and Svenja Jung lead the cast; Majestic will release the film in Germany on September 17 this year.
Other titles on Beta Cinema’s Cannes slate include Antonia Campbell-Hughes High End with Raffey Cassidy, Andrea Riseborough, Guy Pearce and Alessandro Nivola; and The Offing with Helena Bonham Carter.
