EXCLUSIVE: Chinese director Bi Gan’s fantasy epic Resurrection, playing in Busan’s first Competition section after award-winning success at Cannes, is heading to several key territories after being sold by Les Films du Losange.
The film has been acquired for the UK and Ireland (Trinity CineAsia), Australia and New Zealand (Rialto), Norway (AS Fidalgo), Romania (Voodoo), MENA (Teleview), Brazil (Fenix Distribuidora de Filmes), Japan (Reallylikefilms), India (Impact Film), Indonesia (PT Falcon), Singapore and Malaysia (Cineaste Production House), CIS (Universal Distribution), the Philippines (Film Development Council Philippines) and inflight (Skeye).
It follows a sale to Janus Films for North America after it premiered in Competition at Cannes and scooped the special jury prize.
The film stars Jackson Yee and Shu Qi in a century-spanning story told in different cinematic styles. Set in a world where humanity has lost the ability to dream, it centres on a woman who follows a monstruous creature into a dream world to uncover a hidden truth hidden.
Shu Qi is doing double duty at Busan International Film Festival with her directorial debut Girl also playing in Competition following its world premiere at Venice and screening at Toronto.
Resurrection is produced by China’s Huace Pictures and Dangmai Films with France’s CG Cinema.
The film is set to continue its global festival run with future stops at New York Film Festival, Beyond Fest and BFI London Film Festival among others.
