The Things You Kill

Alireza Khatami’s dramatic thriller The Things You Kill will fly the flag for Canada as the country’s best international feature film Oscar submission.

The feature premiered at Sundance and centres on a university professor who enlists an enigmatic gardener to seek vengeance after the suspicious death of his ailing mother.

As long-buried family secrets resurface, the police tighten their noose and doubts begin to gnaw at the professor’s conscience.

The film stars Ekin Koç, Erkan Kolçak Köstendil, Hazar Ergüçlü, and Ercan Kesal and will open in Canada via Mongrel Media on September 19. Best Friend Forever represents international sales.

The Things You Kill is co-produced by Tell Tall Tale, Fulgurance, Remora Films, Lava Films, Band With Pictures, and Sineaktif.

The vote was announced on Tuesday morning by Telefilm Canada and determined by a pan-Canadian committee of industry organisations and guilds, filmmakers and industry professionals. Sixteen films were submitted for consideration.
