EXCLUSIVE: The Institut Français (The French Institute) has teamed up with Cannes Film Festival’s Critics’ Week for 2026, with a shared space on the Croisette and a series of industry events.

Based at Croisette Beach, the two organisations will host events in collaboration with the Marché du Film’s industry programmes, and meetings, roundtable discussions and workshops curated by the Institut Français.

It will also spotlight Institut Français’ La Fabrique Cinéma’s programme for emerging global filmmakers, which is now in its 18th edition and selects around 10 first or second features every year from emerging countries to help connect them with the French film industry during the festival.

Graduates of the programme include Kaouther Ben Hania, Philippe Lacôte, Gaya Jiji and Kim Torres. Alumni who have also gone on to have their films play at recent Critics’ Week editions include Arvin Belarmino with Radicals in 2024, Tushar Prakash with Sauna Day in 2024 and Morad Mostafa with I Promise You Paradise in 2023.

The Institut Français is tasked by the Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Culture to help to promote and distribute French cinema internationally.

Eva Nguyen Binh, president of the Institut Français, said: “The partnership between the Institut Français and the prestigious Semaine de la Critique marks an important and meaningful milestone, given our shared missions to discover and support talent from France and around the world.”
