EXCLUSIVE: ICA Cinema has acquired UK-Ireland theatrical distribution rights to Cannes winner I Only Rest In The Storm and International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR) winner Fiume o morte!.
The distributor will release both titles in UK-Ireland cinemas this autumn. Both films will have UK premieres at the ICA cinema in London as part of the releases.
Pedro Pinho’s Portuguese film I Only Rest In The Storm debuted in Un Certain Regard at Cannes this year, with Cleo Diara winning the best actress prize. The film follows an environmental engineer who accepts a position in West Africa, where he develops complex relationships with two locals while uncovering details about his predecessor’s unexplained disappearance.
Paradise City Sales handles international rights on the film, which also stars Sergio Coragem and Jonathan Guilherme. It is produced by Portugal’s Uma Pedra no Sapato and Terratreme Filmes.
ICA has also picked up Igor Bezinovic’s Fiume o morte!, which won the main Tiger award at IFFR in February.
It depicts the retelling by locals of a bizarre story about the 16-month occupation of the Croatian city of Rijeka – known to Italians as Fiume – in 1919 by Italian poet Gabriele D’Annunzio. Producers are Vanja Jambrovic and Tibor Keser for Croatia’s Restart.
