EXCLUSIVE: Charades and PiperFilm have acquired the international sales rights to Italian director Carolina Cavalli’s The Kidnapping Of Arabella, starring rising Italian actress Benedetta Porcaroli and Chris Pine, which is set to world premiere at the Venice Film Festival in the Horizons section.
PiperFilm is the Rome-based independent film distribution and international sales company launched in late 2024 and now part of the Vuelta Group.
The film is about a 28-year-old woman who has always felt uncomfortable in her own skin and disappointed in her life’s trajectory until she meets a little girl named Arabella. Convinced the child is her younger self, she sets out to change her fate.
It is Cavalli’s second feature following her 2022 breakout Amanda, which also starred Porcaroli and premiered at Venice before going on to be nominated for three David di Donatello awards. Porcaroli has also had leading roles in Michael Mohan’s 2024 horror film Immaculate opposite Sydney Sweeney and Netflix mini-series The Leopard.
The Kidnapping Of Arabella is produced by Antonio Celsi for Elsinore Film alongside Annamaria Morelli for The Apartment, a Fremantle group company, with PiperFilm’s Massimiliano Orfei, Luisa Borella and Davide Novelli.
Paris-based Charades and PiperFilm are co-handling international rights.
