Dubai-based sales firm Cercamon has boarded world rights on Han Shuai’s Chinese title Green Night, which will have its world premiere in Panorama at this month’s Berlin Film Festival (February 16-26).
Green Night centres on a Chinese woman trapped in a life of oppression by her Korean husband. An adventure with a mysterious green-haired girl offers her the chance to break free and claim her independence.
Chinese star Fan Bingbing and South Korean actress Lee Joo Young lead the cast of the film, which is produced by Liu Ziyi and Wang Jing.
Shuai returns to Berlin after winning the Generation KPlus Grand Prix in 2021 with debut feature Summer Blur, which also played at Busan, Pingyao and Hong Kong film festivals.
“Green Night is a visually stunning and emotionally charged film with powerful performances and a unique perspective,” said Sebastian Chesneau, CEO at Cercamon. “The lead characters are thrown into situations that test their strength and resilience, ultimately leading to an empowering journey of growth and liberation. We’re confident it will attract buyers’ attention in Berlin.”
“Cercamon has a proven track record of bringing amazing films to audiences worldwide, and we’re thrilled to be working with them on Green Night,” said a statement from the producers. “This film is a labour of love, and we can’t wait for audiences to experience its magic on the big screen.”
The Berlinale opens on February 16 with Rebecca Miller’s US drama She Came To Me.
