‘Dear You’

CMC Pictures is set to release hit Chinese drama Dear You in North America, Australia and Zealand after securing theatrical distribution rights from Damai Entertainment.

The film is scheduled for release on June 25 in Australia and New Zealand, followed by North America on June 26.

The deal comes just days after Trinity CineAsia revealed it had acquired UK, Ireland and France distribution rights to Lan Hongchun’s family drama. It will also release on June 26 in the UK and Ireland.

Since its local release on April 30, the modest budget feature has taken $255.7m (RMB1.73bn) at the China box office, making it the country’s second biggest film of 2026 to date.

Led by an unknown cast and told in a local Teochew language, the story follows a debt-ridden grandson who travels to Bangkok in search of his long absent, supposedly rich grandfather. A secret past unfolds when he learns that his grandfather has long passed away and the money and letters sent home to his grandmother over the decades came from an unknown woman in Thailand.

The cast is led by Li Sitong, Wang Yantong, Wu Shaoqing, Zheng Runqi and Wang Xiaohui. Thai actress Taew Usha Seamkhum, who starred How to Make Millions Before Grandma Dies, also makes a special appearance.

Among the backers of Dear You are King Ant Pictures and Damai Entertainment (formerly Alibaba Pictures), of which the latter also is the local distributor in mainland China and handles worldwide sales.

CMC Pictures is a leading international distributor of Chinese-language films, having handled the overseas releases of more than 120 titles including The Wandering Earth series, animated blockbuster Ne Zha, the Detective Chinatown series, Successor, Lost In The Stars, and the Ip Man films.
