Dime Detective

EXCLUSIVE: Los Angeles-based Cineville has begun AFM sales on the noir drama Dime Detective starring Terrence Howard and Lana Parrilla.

The feature takes its name from the pulp magazine published from the 1930s to 1950s and stars Howard as Javier “Tank” Tanquero, a tough detective in Puerto Rico haunted by his father’s suicide.

When Tanquero investigates the case of a murdered activist in San Juan, he discovers unsettling parallels with his father’s death and gets the chance to reclaim his sense of purpose before the killer strikes again. The cast includes Jacob Vargas, Daniel Zovatto, Armando Riesco, and Luis Antonio Ramos.

Cineville is screening Dime Detective today (November 12) and Friday. San Juan-based Betty Kaplan, whose credits include Art of Love and Law & Order: Criminal Intent, directed from a screenplay by producer Lee Caplin, who co-produced the True Detective series.

Eduardo J. Ramírez De Arellano and Susan Henry Ravelo of Moovy Studios also produced, alongside Carl Colpaert and Frederic Demey for Cineville International.

“The film captures the island’s unique beauty and its people’s vibrance, creativity and resilience, showcasing Puerto Rico’s unique storytelling potential and vibrant culture on the global stage,” Kaplan said.

Cineville principal Colpaert said: “Terrence Howard went beyond the challenge to portray this very complex, conflicted character of ‘Tank,’ and shooting in Puerto Rico was not only a wonderful experience, but, more importantly, added to the tapestry of the story.”

Among Cineville’s market sales slate are the upcoming heist thriller Sledgehammer; and Merry Christmas Mrs. Garcia, a Latino version of Cineville production Mrs. Palfrey At The Claremont.
