UK-based sales firm Cornerstone has boarded Australian psychological horror From Below, the feature debut of filmmaker Sean Loch, ahead of next month’s American Film Market (AFM).

Set against the backdrop of the Australian outback, From Below tells the story of a 15-year-old, played by Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and Sting star Alyla Browne, travelling across the outback with her father.

They come across two seemingly abandoned cars at an isolated desert crossing, and an invisible force that leads to a life-or-death struggle. The film will begin production in Queensland, Australia next year.

Loch’s short film credits include Sleepwalker, which was acquired and distributed by LA-based Cranked Up Films.

Sam Price produces for Australian outfit Pathline Pictures. Natalie Coleman, former head of investments at Head Gear, will executive produce together with Alison Thompson and Mark Gooder from Cornerstone.

It is supported through Screen Queensland’s Screen Finance and Development funds.

Price noted the screenplay “blends survival thriller, creature feature and outback horror to push beyond the familiar tropes of the genre”.
