David Morrissey, James Norton, Leanne Best, and Harry Lloyd are among new additions to the cast on The Beatles — A Four-Film Cinematic Even from Sony Pictures, Sam Mendes, and Neal Street.
Morrissey will portray Paul McCartney’s father Jim McCartney, while Best is cast as John Lennon’s Aunt Mimi, Norton will play the band’s influential manager Brian Epstein, and Lloyd is on board as long-time music producer George Martin.
The new influx includes Bobby Schofield as road manager and trusted confidant Neil Aspinall, Daniel Hoffmann-Gill as roadie Mal Evans, Arthur Darvill as press officer and friend Derek Taylor, and Adam Pally as controversial music manager Allen Klein.
They join previously announced leads Paul Mescal as McCartney, Harris Dickinson as John Lennon, Barry Keoghan as Ringo Starr, and Joseph Quinn as George Harrison.
Casting of other central characters including Cynthia Lennon and Ravi Shankar will be announced in due course.
Each of the four films will be told from the point of view of each of the Fab Four and the films will be distributed worldwide, “with full theatrical windows” per the studio, in April 2028. It is understood further detail on the exact release pattern may come in 2026.
Sony Pictures is financing the features and the project marks the first time Apple Corps Ltd. and The Beatles have granted full life story and music rights for a scripted film.
Mendes will direct all four and produce alongside his Neal Street Productions partner Pippa Harris and Neal Street’s Julie Pastor. Alexandra Derbyshire is also producing.
