A Cannes 2025 Competition premiere, Eagles Of The Republic follows Egypt’s most adored actor when he falls into disgrace overnight with authorities; and is forced to star in a propaganda film about the country’s dictator.

It was Sweden’s entry to the best international feature award at the 2026 Oscars, although did not make the longlist. Production companies are Sweden’s Unlimited Stories and Apparaten with France’s Memento Films Production; with France’s Playtime handling world sales.

Maria Eriksson-Hecht won best director for her debut feature Kevlar Soul, a Goteborg 2025 premiere about two inseparable teenage brothers whose bond is disrupted by romance. Torkel Petersson won best actor in a supporting role for his performance in the film; while Rio Svensson won the Guldbagge Newcomer Award for his breakthrough role, not directly awarded to the film.

Jon Blahed’s Raptures was the only other title to win multiple prizes – best actress in a leading role for Jessica Grabowsky, and best original music for Rebekka Karijord.

Further awards included best documentary to Victoria Verseau’s Trans Memoria; an audience award for Stina Gardell’s Siw; and an honorary award to Cinema Sweden CEO Yiwa Swedenborg.
