European Film Promotion (EFP) and CPH:DOX have selected six feature documentaries for the Europe! Docs showcase, spotlighting European documentaries for the North American market.
The titles include Pieter-Jan De Pue’s Mariinka, which will open CPH:DOX on March 10, in the Dox: Award competition. Filmed over 10 years, Mariinka depicts a decade of the Russia-Ukraine conflict, which divides families and derails their fates.

Also selected is Something Familiar by British-Romanian filmmaker Rachel Close. Receiving first place from Romania’s CNC Development Fund in 2022, the film sees Close follow a fellow adoptee in searching for her birth mother, before launching her own search for missing sisters and confronting a family legacy of abuse and exploitation.
The online showcase will take place ahead of CPH:DOX and consists of a presentation to US buyers and distributors, as well as an online press event and preparation for participating filmmakers on US market strategies and targeted introductions.
The programme is backed by Creative Europe – the Media Programme of the European Union, the Danish Film Institute, Belgium’s Flanders Image, Romanian Film Development, the Swedish Film Institute, Swiss Films and Unifrance.
All six selected titles will have world premieres in the festival, which runs from March 11-22.
“By showcasing carefully selected films ahead of the festival, we create early visibility and open the door to new partnerships, reinforcing our commitment to bringing European cinema further and making a real impact in the US market,” said EFP managing director Sonja Heinen.
“The initiative adds real value to CPH:Market by giving outstanding European documentaries early exposure to US buyers and decision-makers, while creating space for meaningful exchange around the films,” said Mara Gourd-Mercardo, head of industry & training at CPH:DOX. “It’s an important step in strengthening international pathways for European non-fiction and further underlines CPH:Industry as a key meeting point for the global documentary sector.”
