Launched last year, the programme aims to encourage the early stage use by producers of innovative marketing solutions to develop audiences for films already supported by the Fund’s Co-production Support Programme.

Emily Atef received support for her English-language debut Call Me Queen about a friendship between an Irish journalist in Kenya and a Rwandan woman during the 1990s AIDS crisis. It is produced by Germany’s Ringel Film and France’s Les Films Pelleas. Atef’s films have previously played in competition at the Berlinale and in Un Certain Regard at Cannes.

Jonas Poher Rasmussen, who won an Oscar this year for animated feature Flee, won backing for his next animation project Dansker, about a man forced to leave his native Turkey after deserting the army, but struggling to integrate in Denmark and turning to crime. Denmark’s Ja Film leads the production.

Belgian filmmaker Michaël R Roskam, whose credits include Bullhead and Racer And The Jailbird, was supported for his wartime feature Le Faux Soir. The film tells the story of the Belgian resistance secretly producing a spoof version of the country’s leading newspaper, Le Soir, which had become a propaganda tool of the occupying Nazis.

Oscar nominee Tamara Kotevska (Honeyland) also won backing for debut fiction feature Man Vs Flock. The story centres on an elderly farmer fighting for his land against a Chinese construction company, with the conflict soon extending to his own family.
