Sonja Heinen

Sonja Heinen, who steps down as European Film Promotion’s (EFP) managing director at the end of July, is to take up the newly created post of development executive for Hamburg regional fund MOIN’s NEST development programme from September 1.

The NEST programme connects screenwriters, creators, and producers to work on the development of fiction features, animation and documentary features, series and innovative formats.

Heinen will be responsible for the development of NEST and supporting funded ideas for new films, series and immersive formats throughout the entire development process.

This includes allocating targeted funding measures (NEST Tools), expanding the NEST community and connecting NEST projects with the market so that promising ideas can develop into strong projects for the cinema, TV and streaming platforms and find their audience.

Heinen, who is working closely with her EFP successor Irina Ignatiew-Lemke during a handover period through to the end of July, took over at the helm of EFP from the promotion organisation’s founder Renate Rose in March 2017.

Prior to EFP, Heinen headed up the Berlinale Co-Production Market and also served as programme manager for the festival’s World Cinema Fund.
