Top brass at the 30th Fantasia International Film Festival (Jul 16-Aug 2) in Montreal have announced the second wave of selections including Jane Schoenbrun’s Cannes Queer Palm winner Teenage Sex And Death At Camp Miasma and the season finale of Apple TV series Cape Fear starring Javier Bardem.

The genre festival brings world premieres of Paween Purijitpanya’s Thai action fantasy God Skin about a delivery boy who discovers a clandestine martial arts scene with a high-tech twist; and Wiebke von Carolsfeld’s thriller Someone’s Daughter, in which an attorney is kidnapped and left in the Canadian wilderness with an alleged rapist whom she successfully defended years before.

From the prolific mother-father-daughter Adams Family team comes The Glorious Dead. Yellow Veil Pictures launched sales at the recent Frontières Platform Buyers Showcase in Cannes on the story directed and written by Toby Poser and John Adams starring Poser and the couple’s daughter Zelda Adams about a small-town sheriff and her young deputy who awaken to discover a terrifying changed world.

The world premiere roster includes Craig Mitchell’s Los Vampires starring Henry Ian Cusick and Thomas Kretschmann in the fictionalised account of the making of George Melford’s 1931 Spanish Dracula; Corrin Evans’s feature debut and body horror Corpus; Masanao Kawajiri’s romantic anime feature Cherry And Virgin; and Nicky Murphy’s mockumentary I Love Paris, about an aspiring musician who gets vampirised mid-shoot.

Schoenbrun’s Teenage Sex And Death At Camp Miasma opened Un Certain Regard last month and gets its Canadian premiere in Montreal. Hannah Einbinder and Gillian Anderson star in the tale of a young film director who encounters the reclusive star of the franchise she is tasked with reviving.

Cape Fear gets its season finale premiere at Fantasia and sees Bardem star opposite Patrick Wilson and Amy Adams in the latest retelling of the crime thriller about a killer who gets out of prison and goes after the married lawyers who put him behind bars.

Fantasia screenings will take place in Concordia Hall, J.A. de Sève cinemas, and Cinéma du Musée. The festival will announce its full line-up in July.
