Past Life

EXCLUSIVE: Screen has obtained the first-look image of Jeremy Piven in the thriller Past Life, one of several new titles on the Cannes sales roster at Clay Epstein’s Film Mode Entertainment. The slate includes Cuba Gooding Jr. sci-fi Quantum Supremacy, thriller Speak Up, and horror 13 Souls.

Past Life follows an investigative reporter, played by Aneurin Barnard, who witnesses a murder through the eyes of a psychotic killer while under hypnosis at an event. He partners with the hypnotist (Piven) to use past life regression techniques to investigate a series of unsolved murders from the 1980s, unwittingly reawakening a psychotic killer’s tendencies.

Simeon Halligan directs the film, which is currently in post-production and also stars Tim McInnerny and Pixie Lott. Halligan, Dean Lines and Ray Bogdanovich co-wrote the screenplay, and the producers are Rachel Richardson-Jones, Pierre Romain, and Michael Laundon, with Michael Bassick and Epstein serving as executive producers. Film Mode will show first footage in Cannes.

Quantum Supremacy is produced by Jose Daniel Bort and centres on the captain of a ship patrolling the galaxy who must race to thwart an AI threat to humanity. Jesse Baget directed from a screenplay by Terrifier 2 producer Steven Barton, and the cast includes Michael Ayiotis and Simon Jackson.

Speak Up stars Lilly Krug from Plane and Stephen Moyer from True Blood in the story of a patient at a remote hospital who discovers she is being treated by her attacker and must expose the truth as the predator tries to cover his tracks. Radhika Apte and Franz Drameh also star. Dakota Gorman will direct the project, which is in pre-production and being producer by Alex Lane and Oleg Shardin, with Epstein as executive producer.

Brazil’s Paulo M. Nascimento makes his English-language debut on 13 Souls, in which a teenager whose mother has died moves in with her estranged father and older sister near the cemetery where he works, and uncovers a connection between her family and the victims of an unsolved fire.

Sienna Belle and Tim Shelburne star and the film is produced by Rose Ganguzza, Marcio Fraccaroli, Nascimento, Nelson Marcondes, Andre Fraccaroli, Veronica Stumpf, Marilaine Castro Da Costa, and Edson Rodrigues.

Film Mode handles worldwide rights on all four projects.
