‘Journey There’

EXCLUSIVE: South Korean sales company Finecut has boarded international sales of Journey There, starring US actor Justin H. Min of Netflix series Beef, The Umbrella Academy and Cannes 2021 selection After Yang.

The film also stars veteran actress Kim Hye-ok, who won acclaim for her role in 2006 drama Family Ties and is also known for more recent features Phantom and Life Is Beautiful. A first look at Min opposite Kim can be seen above.

It marks the second feature of director Kim Jin-yu after 2018 family drama Bori, which premiered at Busan and won the Directors Guild of Korea award.

The drama follows an elderly woman as she encounters strangers while grappling with profound grief after the sudden death of her husband. Min plays a new neighbour who offers to store her grand piano in his home. A conductor from Germany who was adopted from Korea as a child, he seeks the woman’s help in searching for his birth mother, who has passed away. He also assists a young pianist, a boy with genius-level talent who has set aside his dreams as a fellow orphan. The woman’s last promise with her husband — that they would end their lives together in Switzerland — begins to waver as these strangers gradually become like family.

Produced by Pado Production, the film will receive its market premiere screening at Cannes.

At the market, Finecut will also showcase 30 minutes of footage from Tristes Tropiques, the upcoming action-noir feature by director Park Hoon-jung. Further titles on its slate include Boss, an action-comedy by Hive Media Corp, the production company behind box office hit 12.12: The Day. Both films are scheduled for release in late 2025.
