Screen can reveal the first trailer for Bálint Kenyeres’ feature debut Hier (Tegnap), which has its world premiere at the Locarno Festival (Aug 1-11).

Hungarian director Kenyeres won a European Film Award with his short film Before Dawn which premiered at Cannes in 2005. His next short The History Of Aviation debuted in Directors’ Fortnight in 2009.

Hier stars Romanian actor Vlad Ivanov, whose roles include Cristian Mungiu’s Palme d’Or-winner 4 Months, 3 Weeks And 2 Days, Toni Erdmann and László Nemes’ Sunset.

He plays the owner of a building company who must travel to North Africa for work. Whilst there he is confronted with deeply buried memories of his youth and an investigation into a past love, who has mysteriously disappeared.

The film will have its world premiere in Locarno’s Filmmakers of the Present Competition on August 5. Sales are handled by the Hungarian National Film Fund.

The Mirage Film production was made with the support of Hungarian National Film Fund, Netherlands Film Fund, Creative Europe and Arte.
