EXCLUSIVE: A bumper showcase of over 50 features has been finalised for the second edition of regional showcase Flanders Film Days taking place in Ghent in Belgium from October 6-7, in close collaboration with Film Fest Gent, supported by the Flanders Audiovisual Fund (VAF).
Fiction, documentary, animation and experimental work will be pitched to international attendees in three strands encompassing development or pre-production, works in progress and completed films.
Newly confirmed projects include Olga Lucovnicova and Annabel Verbeke’s documentary Between Us And The Moon, about free-spirited young women trying to break away from the strict patriarchal rules of their Roma community.
Among the high-profile works in progress pitches are Eva Küpper’s feature doc Icara, produced by Menuetto and Frederike Migom’s documentary To Be Me, about mental health issues among the younger generation, which is being produced by Emmy Oost’s award-winning company, Cassette For Timescapes. Migom’s previous feature, Everyone’s Sorry Nowadays, screened at the Berlinale.
Harm Dens’ sci-fi drama Solipsis is one of 19 completed films that will be available for online screening. It is set in a decaying future world where everyone wears VR headsets and what they see remains hidden from others.
Further completed titles will include Kristof Bilsen’s doc The Apologist, fresh from its well-received world premiere at Sheffield Doc Fest, and Tom Van Gestel’s animated feature Juul about a young circus performer declared brain dead after a stunt goes wrong and whose grief-stricken father brings her back into the ring as a living puppet.
It is being produced by Fabrique Fantastique and sold by Studio 100.
Flanders Film Days is the successor event to Connext. Representatives from the Toronto International Film Festival, Locarno, Berlinale, San Sebastián, FIDMarseille, International Film Festival Rotterdam, Giornate degli Autori and ACID Cannes will be among those in attendance as well as sales agents M-Appeal, Films Boutique, Autlook, Indie Sales, Salaud Morisset, True Colours and The Match Factory.
Previously confirmed projects include new titles from directors such as Fien Troch, Teodora Ana Mihai, Stijn Coninx, Bas Devos and Patrice Toye.
Organisers said most projects are looking for sales representation and a festival premiere and that a further fiction projects may be added to the programme.
