Focus Features has acquired North American rights from Studiocanal to the true-life drama Elsinore starring Andrew Scott and Olivia Colman and released a first-look image.
Produced by Studiocanal, LD Entertainment, Lucky Red, and Magnolia Mae Films, the follows Chariots Of Fire actor Ian Charleson as he gives a triumphant final performance as Hamlet at London’s National Theatre in late 1989 shortly before dying of AIDS at the age of 40. Charleson had been one of the first public figures in the UK to reveal his diagnosis.
Simon Stone directed from a screenplay by Stephen Beresford and the cast includes Billie Piper and Johnny Flynn with Juliet Stevenson and Peter Mullan. Focus will release Elsinore on November 20 and expand over the Thanksgiving holiday and throughout December.
Universal Pictures International will distribute in Latin America, while Studiocanal releases theatrically in its markets of the UK, France, Germany, Poland, Benelux, Australia and New Zealand and handles worldwide sales. Lucky Red distributes in Italy.
