Production and distribution group Fremantle has appointed James Duffen as CEO of its newly launched AI studio Imaginae Studios.
Duffen joins from Aurelius Advisers, where he was managing director of artificial intelligence and machine learning, advising early-stage AI companies on their sale to global technology groups. His previous roles include VP special projects at Zodiak Media and chief commercial officer at TheRightsXchange (TRX).
Fremantle announced the launch of Imaginae Studios in April. The standalone label will focus on leveraging AI technologies and tools, with a brief to embrace experimentation and to push production and storytelling boundaries.
Duffen will oversee setting the strategy, culture and operating model of Imaginae Studios and connecting with talent globally.
He reports to Andrea Scrosati, Fremantle’s group chief operating officer, CEO Continental Europe, and starts in the role on October 20.
Fremantle’s production labels include Irish and UK outfit Element Pictures, the UK’s 72 Films and Talkback Thames, France’s Srab Films, and Italy’s The Apartment and Lux Vide.
