Gal Gadot and Matthias Schoenaerts will star in Niki Caro’s Second World War thriller Ruin, which The Veterans will introduce to buyers in Cannes later this month.
Based on The Black List screenplay by Kaz Firpo and Ryan Firpo, the story takes place in Germany in the aftermath of the war as a recently released camp prisoner (Gadot) is forced to make an unlikely alliance with a German soldier (Schoenaerts) in a mutual quest to exact revenge on a Nazi SS squad.
Marc Butan of MadRiver Pictures is producing alongside Jaron Varsano and Gadot under their Pilot Wave Motion Pictures, along with Caro.
Principal photography is scheduled to commence in the first quarter of 2026, with further casting underway. UTA Independent Film Group, WME Independent, and CAA Media Finance jointly represent US rights.
Caro previously directed Holocaust drama The Zookeeper’s Wife starring Jessica Chastain, and her credits include Whale Rider, North Country, and the live-action Mulan.
Gadot is in production on The Runner for MGM Amazon Studios and most recently starred as the Evil Queen in Disney’s Snow White. She wrapped production last year on the Julian Schnabel’s Hand Of Dante.
Schoenaerts is currently filming Supergirl: Woman Of Tomorrow for Warner Bros and DC Studios, and will next be seen in The Old Guard 2 for Netflix, and Terrence Malick’s The Way Of The Wind.
The Veterans’ Cannes sales slate includes James Gray’s Paper Tiger and Christian Gudegast’s Gerard Butler starrer Empire State.
