EXCLUSIVE: Georgia’s Eliso Film Awards has selected five jury members for its 2026 edition.
The five-person jury consists of German filmmaker Angela Schanelec, Polish filmmaker Malgorzata Szumowska, film theorist Theo Khatiashvili and cinematographer Giorgi Shvelidze from Georgia, and Danish filmmaker Lea Glob.
The ceremony will be held at the Nato Vachnadze House museum in Gurjaani, Georgia on June 14 – the date of birth in 1904 and death in 1953 of acclaimed Georgian actress Vachnadze.
The jurors will award six prizes to Georgian fiction and documentary features released last year, in the categories of best film, director, cinematography, acting, editing, and music.
“It is fascinating to observe how Georgian filmmakers are coping with the lack of funding,” said Natalia Jugheli, director of the Nato Vachnadze Foundation and Vachnadze’s great-granddaughter. “This year’s competition is very diverse, and the new authors and voices are remarkably distinctive. We are grateful to our jury members, as deciding who stands out as the best will definitely not be easy.”
First held in 2024, the independent ceremony is organised by the Nato Vachnadze Foundation, and supported by TBC Bank, Coca-Cola, Hotel Rooms, Sarajishvili, Bluetabla, Enkeny Films, zoommer, the Danish Cultural Institute, Andersen, At.ge, and the Polish Institute in Tblisi.
