GKids will give its inaugural presentation at CinemaCon in Las Vegas on April 14 and kick off international day programming with first-look footage from parent company Toho’s Godzilla Minus Zero.
The session at Caesars Palace Colosseum will be followed by the state of the industry keynote from Cinema United president and CEO Michael O’Leary, and concludes with a presentation from Neon.
Director Takashi Yamazaki, who won the visual effects Academy Award for his 2023 feature Godzilla Minus One, will present for the first time and show excerpts from the upcoming action epic sequel, plot details of which remain under wraps. In 2024 Toho president Hiro Matsuoka presented at CinemaCon to celebrate the release of Godzilla Minus One and highlight the Godzilla franchise’s 70th anniversary.
Toho will release Godzilla Minus Zero in Japan on November 3 and Gkids will release in North America on November 6. November 3 holds a special place in Godzilla lore and marks the date of the original theatrical release of Godzilla in 1954. The Godzilla Minus Zero release is the first time a Godzilla film will open so close together in Japan and North America.
“The future strength of our industry depends on a year-round diverse slate of films that speaks to the broad range of moviegoing audiences around the world,” O’Leary said, adding that Gkids “exemplifies a commitment to diverse moviegoing choices”.
CinemaCon runs April 13-16.
