EXCLUSIVE: Global Constellation has unveiled the first trailer and a raft of pre-sales for Polish filmmaker Jan Holoubek’s Wild, Wild East, ahead of its world premiere in the Toronto Platform competition.

The Second World War noir thriller has sold to Benelux (18K Film), the Western Balkans (Karantanija Cinemas) and Brazil (Belas Artes Grupo). The deals join previously announced sales to France (Maverick Distribution) and Spain (Vercine). Warner Bros will release the film theatrically in Poland.

In 1943, the remote Polish town of Małe Zalesie lives under the shadow of occupation. The arrival of a German officer with a dark secret sent to investigate the disappearance of a Polish lawyer stirs up old rivalries and shifts loyalties, as the town becomes a stage for betrayal and survival.

Holoubek has co-written with Aleksandra Takuska. Itay Tiran leads the cast alongside Joanna Kulig and Jan Bülow.

Polish producers are Bogna Szewczyk-Skupień and Klaudia Śmieja-Rostworowska for Madants alongside Ewa Puszczyńska’s Extreme Emotions.

Adam Gudell, Filip Friedman, Michał Wawrzynowicz, Karolina Lachowska and Łukasz Poniński serve as executive producers. The film is co-produced with TVN Warner Bros. Discovery, Moderator Inwestycje and Wrocław Feature Film Studio, with support from the Polish Film Institute.

Global Constellation is part of the pan-European Vuelta Group, with a slate also including world premieres of Venice documentary Nino: A Film About Nino Rota, Venice Critics’ Week selection Our Share Of Sand and Toronto titles Magazine and Krux.
