Helen Mirren will receive the TIFF Share Her Journey Groundbreaker Award, Seth Rogen will collect the TIFF Norman Jewison Career Achievement Award, and Fan Bingbing will be honoured with the TIFF Special Tribute Award at Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF, September 10-20).
The latest recipients of TIFF Tribute Awards were announced on Tuesday morning alongside filmmaker Bassam Tariq for the TIFF Rising Talent Award, and cinematographer Adam Pietkiewicz.
They join previously announced Penélope Cruz, Lee Chang-dong, Rosalind Eleazar, Siân Heder, and Isabelle Huppert. TIFF’s eighth annual awards gala and fundraiser takes place at Fairmont Royal York on September 13.
Mirren stars as crime author Patricia Highsmith in Anton Corbijn’s chamber thriller and TIFF world premiere A Talent For Murder and her credits include The Madness Of King George, Gosford Park, Excalibur, and her Oscar-winning role in The Queen.
Fan stars in Wayne Wang’s TIFF world premiere Diary Of A Mad Old Man and her body of work includes Mother Bhumi, Buddha Mountain, My Fair Princess, and The 355.
Rogen stars in Lauren Miller Rogen’s TIFF selection Babies and he has starred in The Invite, The Fabelmans and Dumb Money, and co-created and starred in TV hit The Studio.
Tariq marks his second solo feature directorial outing and attends TIFF for the first time with the thriller Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother, which stars Mahershala Ali as an assassin who must find milk for his newborn baby and protect his other two children after their mother dies. Polish cinematographer Pietkiewicz will receive the TIFF Variety Artisan Award and attends TIFF for the first time with Theja Rio’s Angh. He has worked on Wrooklyn Zoo and Baby Reindeer.
“Helen Mirren and Fan Bingbing bring bold, compelling performances to this year’s festival, building on iconic bodies of work,” TIFF CEO Cameron Bailey said. “Bassam Tariq’s Your Mother, Your Mother, Your Mother will confirm his reputation as a dazzling storyteller, and we recognise Adam Pietkiewicz for crafting never-before-seen images from one of the world’s most remote regions. And we will be forever grateful to writer, actor, director and producer Seth Rogen for sharing his wildly Canadian talents with the world.”
