‘The Love That Remains’

EXCLUSIVE: Curzon has acquired UK-Ireland distribution rights to Hlynur Palmason’s The Love That Remains.

The film will launch in Cannes Premiere on Sunday, May 18.

The Love That Remains captures the year in the life of a family as the parents navigate their separation. Saga Garðarsdóttir and Sverrir Gudnason lead the cast, alongside Ída Mekkín Hlynsdóttir, Þorgils Hlynsson, Grímur Hlynsson, Anders Mossling and Ingvar Sigurðsson.

Anton Mani Svansson of Iceland’s Still Vivid and Katrin Pors of Denmark’s Snowglobe produced the film. Co-producers are are Mikkel Jersin and Eva Jakobsen at Snowglobe, Nima Yousefi at Sweden’s Hobab, Didar Domehri at France’s Maneki Films, Anthony Muir and Kristina Börjeson of Film I Väst and Olivier Pere and Remi Burah of Arte France Cinema.

Backers are the Icelandic Film Centre, Icelandic Ministry of Culture and Business Affairs, Danish Film Institute, Nordisk Film & TV Fond, Swedish Film Institute, Creative Europe MEDIA, Hornafjörður Municipality, RÚV, Jour2Fête, ARTE, Max Distribution, SVT and DR.

New Europe Film Sales is selling the film, having previously sold Godland which Curzon also released.

It is Icelandic director Palmason’s second time in Official Selection, after Godland in 2022, which won three of Denmark’s Bodil Awards, was nominated for a Film Independent Spirit Award and shortlisted for the best international feature Oscar.

“We had a wonderful experience collaborating with Hlynur, Katrin, Anton and the team at New Europe on the release of Godland, so we jumped at the chance to reunite,” said Louisa Dent, Curzon Film MD. “The Love That Remains is a beautifully touching, and at times funny, story. We look forward to seeing the reaction in Cannes and sharing this special film with audiences in the UK and Ireland.”
