Honk For Jesus, Sharp Stick

Focus Features, Peacock and Jordan Peele’s Monkeypaw Productions have acquired worldwide rights to Honk For Jesus. Save Your Soul and Utopia has picked up US rights to Lena Dunham’s Sharp Stick in the latest deals to emerge from Sundance 2022.

The satirical Honk For Jesus directed by Adamma Ebo and produced by her twin sister Adanne Ebo will get a day-and-date launch in theatres and on Peacock later this year. Regina Hall and Sterling K. Brown star in the Premieres selection about the first lady of a prominent Southern Baptist megachurch who attempts to help her pastor husband rebuild their congregation in the aftermath of a scandal.

UTA Independent Film Group, ICM Partners and CAA Media Finance represented the filmmakers in the Honk For Jesus deal.

Utopia plans a theatrical launch later this year on Sharp Stick, Girls creator Dunham’s first film since Tiny Furniture 12 years ago that also debuted in Premieres and stars Kristine Froseth as a young woman who experiences a sexual awakening. The cast includes Jon Bernthal, Scott Speedman, Dunham, Taylour Paige and Jennifer Jason Leigh.

Danielle DiGiacomo brokered the deal with CAA Media Finance on behalf of the filmmakers.
