‘The Innocents’

IFC Midnight has acquired US rights from Protagonist to Cannes UCR entry The Innocents ahead of its North American premiere in Fantastic Fest later this month.

Eskil Vogt’s coming-of-age supernatural drama will get a 2022 release and centres on a group of children with mysterious shared abilities whose play takes on a malevolent aspect.

Rakel Lenora Flottum, Alva Brynsmo Ramstad, Mina Yasmin Bremseth Asheim, and Sam Ashraf alongside Morten Svartveit and Ellen Dorrit Petersen star.

Producers are Maria Ekerhovd for Mer Films in co-production with Zentropa Sweden, Film i Vast, Snowglobe, Bufo, Logical, Zefyr, and Don’t Look Now.

Vogt’s was on double duty in Cannes this year and co-wrote Joachim Trier’s Croisette favourite The Worst Person in the World. The Innocents marks is his second directorial outing after 2014 Sundance selection and Berlinale prize-winner Blind.

IFC Films brokered the deal with Protagonist’s chief commercial officer George Hamilton and COO James Pugh on behalf of the filmmakers.

Fantastic Fest runs in Austin, Texas, from September 23-30 and closes with TIFF selection Silent Night, which has just been acquired by RLJE Films and AMC+.
