US filmmaker Ira Sachs will be the president of the international competition jury of the San Sebastián Film Festival (September 18-26)
He will be joined by Japanese director Genki Kawamura, French screenwriter Catherine Paillé, Brazilian actress and producer Alice Braga, Spanish actress Patricia López Arnaiz, actor Bill Skarsgård and UK producer Mike Goodridge.
Sachs’ latest film, The Man I Love, which premiered in Cannes, will play in the Pearls section of the festival, devoted to features that have previously screened at international film festivals.
San Sebastian also confirmed the addition of NAZA, by Israeli filmmakers Yuval Abraham and Rachel Szor, two of the four co-directors of the 2025 best documentary Oscar winner No Other Land, to the Pearls section.
This will follow the premiere of the film in competition in Venice.
The Kutxabank-New Directors jury, in charge of deciding the €50,000 award, which is distributed in equal parts between the director and the distributor of the film in Spain, is led by producer Juan Pablo Miller and also includes writer, director and producer Marina Charriton; Screen’s critic Jonathan Romney, filmmaker and producer Dana Blankstein Cohen and actor Tamar Novas.

Festival director, José Luis Rebordinos, and deputy director Maialen Beloki, who will take over as head of the festival next year, also confirmed the attendance of several stars and filmmakers at this year’s edition. As well as the previously announced Donostia Awards recipients Werner Herzog and Naomi Watts, the list includes actors Orlando Bloom, Marion Cotillard, Penélope Cruz, Ricardo Darín, Virginie Efira, Lali Espósito, Eduard Fernández, Dolores Fonzi, Jeremy Irons, Denis Lavant, Vincent Lindon, Rami Malek, Noémie Merlant, Mercedes Morán, Lena Olin, Nahuel Pérez Biscayart, Brad Pitt, Tom Sturridge and Marcelo Subiotto.
Filmmakers also attending are Javier Ambrossi and Javier Calvo; Fatih Akin, Lukas Dhont, Jesse Eisenberg, Nicole Garcia, Pablo Larraín, Diego Luna, Martin McDonagh, Tsai Ming-Liang, Cristian Mungiu, Pawel Pawlikowski and Andrey Zvyagintsev.
Orlando Bloom will present the Donostia Award to Herzog, with whom he has worked in the Venice competition title Bucking Fastard; and director J.A. Bayona will give the award to Naomi Watts, who worked with Bayona in The Impossible.
The festival will also celebrate the 40th anniversary of The Mission with the attendance of director Roland Joffé, Jeremy Irons and producer David Puttnam.
