EXCLUSIVE: LevelK has sold comedy heist Chasing Millions to key territories ahead of theatrical releases in its production countries of Ireland and Australia.
The film is headed to the UK (Vertigo), Spain (Twelve Oaks), the Balkans (Fivia), Asia-Pacific (Cinema World) and extensive airline rights (CineSky Pictures).
Negotiations are underway for North American and Italian rights. Eclipse Pictures will release the film in Ireland on October 9, with Bonsai Films releasing in Australia on November 19. The film will have its world premiere in Dublin on October 1 in association with Dublin International Film Festival; followed by an Australian premiere on October 8, opening the Irish Film Festival in Sydney.
Inspired by the Northern Bank robbery in 2004, Chasing Millions follows a determined Australian detective and world-weary Belfast police officer who are tasked with tracking down the stolen £26m. Christopher Eccleston and Madeleine Madden lead the cast.
It is directed by Stephen Burke, who co-wrote the screenplay with Katherine Thomson. Chasing Millions was filmed on location in Dundalk and Dublin in Ireland, with post-production taking place in Australia.
The Ireland-Australia co-production is produced by Jane Doolan for Mammoth Films, in co-production with Michael Wrenn’s Invisible Republic. Investment funding came from Screen Ireland and Coimisiún na Meán, in association with Screen Australia and RTE, with financing support from Screen Queensland.
