EXCLUSIVE: Kim Bartley’s Toronto Centrepiece world premiere Lemonade has been picked up by MetFilm Distribution and Break Out Pictures, who will jointly release theatrically in UK-Ireland in spring 2027.

Irish actors Barry Keoghan and Lewis Brophy star in the story of a Dublin teenager (Brophy). When he makes a mistake that could derail his future, he unexpectedly reconnects with the social worker (Keoghan) who once tried to help him but whose own mistakes drove them apart.

Rachel Lysaght produces for Ireland’s Underground Films alongside UK-Ireland producer Farah Abushwesha for Rocliffe Productions. The deal was negotiated directly with the producers.

Supporting cast is Carla Tous, Eileen Walsh, John Connors, Justin Daniels Anene and Imelda May.

Funders include Screen Ireland, Play House Studios, RTÉ and Coimisiún na Meán with the support of Film & TV Crew Academy West and Atlantic Academy’s Pathways Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.

Bartley is a Paris-raised, Dublin-based filmmaker whose credits include 2021 documentary Pure Grit.

“I feel very proud of Lemonade,” she said. “We all poured our hearts into this story that was deeply personal to me, to Barry and to many of our cast and crew.”
