Polish director and screenwriter Jan Komasa is to chair the jury for the Rome Film Festival’s main competitive section, the Progressive Cinema Competition.
Komasa, whose credits include Good Boy and Corpus Christi, will be joined on the jury by Brazilian actress and producer Alice Braga; Jordanian, Palestinian and Canadian actress and poet Saja Kilani; Spanish director, screenwriter and editor Carlos Marques-Marcet; and Italian-American director and screenwriter Alessio Rigo de Righi.
Eighteen films are set to play in the Progressive Cinema Competition, including Clio Barnard’s I See Buildings Fall Like Lightning, Mikel Gurrea’s Sants, Rafiki Fariala’s Congo Boy, and Diego Luna’s Ashes.
The jury will award prizes for best film, director, screenplay, actress and actor and bestow the grand jury prize. It will also award the special jury prize, selected by the president and the jury members from among the other categories.
For young filmmakers, the Poste Italiane best debut film award jury will be chaired by Italian screenwriter and director Ludovica Rampoldi, alongside French director Pauline Loquès and Romanian director, screenwriter and producer Corneliu Porumboiu. The award will be selected from 14 films drawn from across the festival, including Jordan Firstman’s Club Kid, Mads Mengel’s The Guest and Fruit Gathering by Aung Phyoe.
Meanwhile, a jury chaired by the Italian director Roberto Minervini and comprising Spanish producer Andrea Queralt and Argentine-British director Jessica Sarah Rinland will award the best documentary prize for 14 films drawn playing at the Festival. They include Alex Gibney’s Knife: The Attempted Murder of Salman Rushdie, Pegah Ahangarani’s Rehearsals for a Revolution and Patric Chiha’s A Russian Winter.
The Rome Film Festival runs from October 13-25.
