WME Independent will kick off worldwide sales at EFM next week on Jaume Collett-Serra’s genre title Play Dead starring Noah Jupe from Hamnet and Matthias Schweighöfer from Army Of The Dead.

Natalie Conway and Peter Stanley-Ward co-wrote the Second World War thriller about an Allied soldier who following an ambush must pretend to be dead in order to survive the night while surrounded by Nazis.

Collett-Serra, who directs the Cliffhanger reboot that Row K will open this summer, is in post on the feature produced by Nocturnal Entertainment, Sam Raimi’s Ghost House Pictures, BoulderLight Pictures, and Bad Grey. Nocturnal Entertainment makes its feature debut and is fully financing the project.

Play Dead is the rare script that felt unapologetically cinematic, built for tension and atmosphere,” Collet-Serra said. “What grabbed me right away was the precision. Every scene escalates, every beat matters. It had this addictive quality where I was turning pages fast to see what happens next. One moment I was being pulled in with suspense and the next I was suddenly feeling all the emotion.”

Nocturnal producers Keaton Heinrichs and Akiva Nemetsky said of Collet-Serra: “He has the rare ability to build tension with precision, and his execution of the script speaks to all his strengths as a world-class filmmaker. We couldn’t be more excited to launch Play Dead as our first film under the Nocturnal banner.”
