Jennifer Coolidge and Nicole Scherzinger have joined the cast of Rebel Wilson’s comedy Girl Group, now in production in the UK.
The film follows a pop star, played by Wilson, who has been kicked out of her own group’s reunion tour and sentenced to community service. She looks to stage a comeback by coaching a group of misfit teenage girls for a major record label audition.
The ensemble cast also includes Randall Park, Sheridan Smith, Jamie Lee O’Donnell, Guz Khan, Jolene, and Loren Gray.
Ashley Roberts – a Pussycat Dolls member alongside Scherzinger – Melanie Chisholm of the Spice Girls and Shaznay Lewis of All Saints will form the fictional group Girlfriends alongside Wilson’s character.
Wilson is writing and directing the film, and producing for her company Camp Sugar, with Matt Williams of Future Artists Entertainment, and executive producer Live Nation Studios.
Girl Group will be Wilson’s second feature as director. Her musical comedy The Deb had its premiere at the Toronto film festival last year. It is yet to be released due to legal disputes between Wilson and several of the producers of the film, and Wilson and actress Charlotte Macinnes.
US star Coolidge is known for roles in the American Pie film franchise and TV’s The White Lotus.
As well as an established stage career including recently in Sunset Boulevard on the West End and Broadway, Scherzinger has screen credits in Men In Black 3, and voice roles in Moana and Moana 2.
