Kaouther Ben Hania

Tunisian director Kaouther Ben Hania has been named president of 2022 Critics’ Week, the Cannes parallel section for films by first and second-time films.

Ben Hania will be supported by a jury comprising French-Greek actress and director Ariane Labed, Icelandic director Benedikt Erlingsson, Belgian cinematographer Benoît Debie, and South Korean journalist, film programmer and director of Busan International Film Festival Huh Moonyung.

Ben Hania’s four features include her debut The Blade Of Tunis, 2017 Cannes Un Certain Regard entry Beauty And The Dogs, and 2020 Venice Orizzonti selection The Man Who Sold His Skin, the first Tunisian film to be nominated for an Oscar.

Erlingsson presented Woman At War at Critics’ Week in 2018. Labed’s acting credits include The Souvenir and The Souvenir Part II, while Debie’s credits include The Sisters Brothers, Enter The Void and Spring Breakers. Huh was appointed Busan director in March 2021.

Ben Hania and the jury will present the grand prize for best feature in the selection, as well as a rising star award for the best acting performance and the discovery prize for best short film.
